What's the deal with Interstate names?

If you're traveling from Salt Lake city to Park City, the majority of your ride will be on I-80. If you're traveling to Park City from the north or south, you'll likely be taking I-15 until you reach I-80, then taking I-80 straight east to Park City.

Perhaps while you're making this gorgeous mountain journey you'll ask yourself, "Where do all the Interstates get their names?

The interstates that your drive on all over the U.S. were created because of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's National System of Interstate and Defense Highways. This plan was first proposed 1938 and by how has essentially been completed. President Eisenhower was the president that really got the ball rolling on mass construction of the interstate system.

Interstates that run north/south are odd numbers, while those that run east/west are even numbers. The odd numbers start on the west coast. For example, I-5 runs along the west coast. The even numbers start in the south. I-10, for example, runs through Arizona and Texas.

If you want to save yourself the stress of driving on Utah Interstates on your next Utah adventure trip, consider riding with a shared Utah mountain shuttle. Especially consider it if you'll be riding from the Salt Lake Airport to Little Cottonwood Canyon.
